Google just set a new record. They successfully patched 1,442 security flaws (bugs) in Chrome versions 149, 150, and 151. In fact, this number is much larger than the combined total of the previous 23 Chrome versions.
Specifically, Chrome 149 and 150 fixed 1,072 bugs. Then, the newest release, Chrome 151, also patched 370 new bugs. Furthermore, 7 of them fall into the highly dangerous (critical) category.
Bug Discovery Surge Due to AI
Of course, finding many bugs does not mean Chrome is bad. Instead, this happens because Google’s tracking system is getting smarter. Currently, the use of AI technology makes the bug search process very fast.
For example, one critical bug hid in Chrome for 13 years. Finally, Google’s Gemini AI managed to find that bug. Besides that, global bug records in 2026 have already almost matched the total cases throughout 2025.
Google’s Preventive Steps
Therefore, Google created a new strategy to fight cyber threats. Here are the steps:
- Faster Updates: Google will try to release security updates twice a week.
- Auto-Patching: Chrome updates will soon run on their own in the background. Thus, users no longer need to bother restarting their browser.
- Changing Code Languages: Google started using safer coding languages like Rust. This step is very important to reduce risks from old code systems (C++).
