WhatsApp is adding new account security features. The biggest change is support for multiple passkeys on one account.

With this feature, users can keep more than one passkey. Therefore, people who use both iPhone and Android devices can sign in more easily without relying only on passwords.

What Is a Passkey?

A passkey is a safer way to sign in without typing a normal password. Users can log in with a fingerprint, Face ID, device PIN, or another secure method.

In addition, passkeys are more resistant to phishing. Users do not need to enter a password that attackers could steal through a fake website.

WhatsApp first added passkey support to Android in 2023. Then, the feature expanded to iOS in 2024.

Now, users can keep multiple passkeys for the same WhatsApp account.

Multiple Passkeys Make Sign-In Easier

The new feature is useful for people who use several devices.

For example, a user can keep one passkey on an iPhone and another on an Android device. As a result, account access becomes more flexible while staying secure.

Users can manage their passkeys through Settings > Account > Passkeys.

According to Meta, more than one billion people already use passkeys to sign in to WhatsApp.

Stronger Two-Step Verification

WhatsApp is also improving two-step verification.

Previously, this feature used a six-digit PIN. Now, users can choose a full password instead.

The password can include letters, numbers, and special characters. Therefore, an account can stay better protected even if an attacker gets the user’s one-time code.

More Information for Unknown Calls

WhatsApp is also adding more context for calls from unknown numbers on Android.

Users may see where the call comes from, whether the caller is already in their contacts, and whether both users share a common group.

As a result, users get more information before answering a suspicious call.

Key Takeaway

WhatsApp multiple passkeys make account access more flexible and more secure.

In addition, stronger two-step verification adds another layer of protection against account takeover. More context for unknown calls can also help users spot possible scams.

Overall, these changes show that WhatsApp is moving toward safer and more phishing-resistant account security.
