Microsoft has fixed a critical security flaw in Microsoft Entra ID. The cloud service was previously known as Azure Active Directory, or Azure AD.
The flaw is tracked as CVE-2026-69836 and has a CVSS score of 10.0. Under certain conditions, it could allow remote code execution over a network.
However, Microsoft has already fixed the issue. In addition, the company confirmed that the flaw was not exploited in real-world attacks.
Microsoft Entra ID is a cloud-based identity and access management service. Many companies use it to manage users, logins, applications, and access.
Therefore, Entra ID is an important part of many business IT environments. A security issue in an identity service can affect many connected systems.
In addition, Entra ID often connects to Microsoft 365, cloud apps, and other business services.
CVE-2026-69836 involves unsafe deserialization of untrusted data.
In simple terms, the service could process outside data in an unsafe way. As a result, an unauthorized attacker could potentially run code over a network.
Because of the possible impact, the flaw received the maximum CVSS score of 10.0.
However, Microsoft has not shared detailed technical information. This can help reduce the risk of abuse after disclosure.
The original report said that the flaw had been exploited.
However, Microsoft later corrected that information. The company confirmed that CVE-2026-69836 was not exploited in the wild.
In addition, Microsoft said the issue has already been fully fixed in its cloud service.
Therefore, Entra ID customers do not need to install a patch or make any special changes.
Since Entra ID is a cloud service, Microsoft applied the fix directly.
As a result, customers do not need to download or install a manual update.
Still, IT teams should continue to protect their identity systems. For example, enable multi-factor authentication, use Conditional Access, and monitor unusual login activity.
In addition, review privileged accounts regularly. These simple steps can help reduce identity-based security risks.
The Microsoft Entra ID flaw CVE-2026-69836 received a CVSS score of 10.0 because it could allow remote code execution.
However, Microsoft has already fixed the issue and confirmed that it was not exploited in real-world attacks.
Since the fix was applied on the cloud side, customers do not need to take extra action. Even so, strong identity and access security should remain a priority.
